Sise, Cardwell, Clark, Sise, Walton, Coffey, Engel win on ‘Food City Race Night’ at Volunteer Speedway

BULLS GAP, Tenn. (Oct. 24, 2020) — Volunteer Speedway held its last weekly race of the 2020 season Saturday with 100 total cars present for Food City Race Night.

Zach Sise (Crate Late Model), Addison Cardwell (Sportsman Late Model), David Clark (Modified Street), Shaun Sise (Classic), Zack Walton (Front Wheel Drive), Rex Coffey (Street Stock), and Adam Engel (Mini Late Model) each celebrated in victory lane.

Brandon Miller set fast-time at 13.241 seconds to earn the pole position for the 25-lap Crate Late Model feature, but it was Zach Sise of Knoxville jumping out to the lead on the opening lap. Behind Sise, Miller, Michael Smith, Josh Henry, Taylor Coffman, Chris Coffey, Jason Cardwell, Tyler Smith and Tim Maupin were battling for position. Third generation racer Henry got up on the wheel to overtake Miller for second at the halfway point, and Cardwell picked off Coffey, Coffman and Smith. … But there would be no catching Sise out front as he captured his fourth win on the season over Henry, Miller, Cardwell and Smith. Completing the top 10 finishers were Coffman, Coffey, Maupin, Forrest Trent and Brent Cornette.

Addison Cardwell of Knoxville grabbed the lead at drop of the green flag in the Sportsman Late Model feature and never looked back en route to capturing his third win on the season over Joe Bray, Clyde Stanton, Mason Bare and Cody Gloyne.

David Clark of Tazewell led flag-to-flag in winning his third Modified Street feature on the season over Logan Hickey, Gary Blanken, Kurt Owens and Kaleb Trent.

Charles Bates led the opening 10 laps of the Classic race before being passed by Shaun Sise of Knoxville. Bates slammed hard into the outside wall around turns one and two on lap 13 to bring out the caution. Sise was briefly chased off the restart by Michael Millsap before he pulled away to win over Millsap, Marcus Mays, Jim Canning Jr. and Sarah Canning.

Zack Walton of Blountville raced side-by-side with his teammate Tanner Earhart in the early laps of the Front Wheel Drive feature before Walton took the lead. Walton went on to capture his seventh victory this season followed by Earhart, Daniel Wright, Brandon Sutherland and Ray Wyatt.

Rex Coffey, Logan Hickey and David Clark battled up front throughout the Street Stock race, at times three-wide, with Coffey, from Morristown, holding on to record his second win this season. He was chased to the checkered flag by Hickey, Clark, Colby Long and Chesten Anderson. … The red flag was displayed on lap 11 following a spectacular wreck along the front straightaway, with Austin Lefevers flipping after getting together with Clark. With emergency responders and track officials quickly on the scene, after a few minutes to catch his breath Lefevers was able to climb from his badly damaged car.

Adam Engel of Knoxville captured the Mini Late Model victory over Randy Fly, Heth Seaton, Smiley Fields and Cade Crutchfield.

Volunteer Speedway will take the next couple weeks off before roaring back to life Nov. 12-14, with running of the $20,000 Volunteer Motorsports Crate Late Model National Championship presented by Grassroots Sports TV featuring American Crate All-Star Series.
