Volunteer Speedway releases ’50th anniversary’ 2023 event schedule

BULLS GAP, Tenn. — Volunteer Speedway operations managers Vic Hill and wife Christa, along with weekly racing promoters Barry Proffitt and son Josh, have put together an outstanding 50th anniversary racing schedule for 2023 on the legendary high banks at “The Gap.”

Volunteer Speedway opened in 1974, and the 2023 season kicks off with what promises to be an historic event March 24-25. The XR Super Series and Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series co-headline the show with twin $5,000-to-win Super Late Model qualifiers on Friday, leading up to the biggest dirt race ever held in the South on Saturday paying $100,000-to-win.

The second annual Kyle Larson Presents FloRacing Late Model Challenge at “The Gap” paying $20,000-to-win is scheduled during spring Bristol Motor Speedway racing weekend in East Tennessee on Thursday, April 6.

The Southern All-Star Dirt Racing Series makes its first visit to Volunteer Speedway since 2013 for a $5,000-to-win Super Late Model event on June 3.

Ray Cook’s Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series visits Monday, July 17 for $7,553-to-win Super Late Model summertime show.

Labor Day weekend on Friday, Sept. 1 will feature inaugural running of the Rocky Top 100 for Super Late Models paying $12,000-to-win.

The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series $12,000-to-win 16th Annual Scorcher is scheduled Wednesday, Sept. 23.

The American All-Star Series Pro Late Models Presented by PPM Racing Products will be in action on three occasions. Their first race will be $3,000-to-win May 5, followed by $5,000-to-win July 8, which all leads up to the series championship finale paying $10,000-to-win Oct. 7.

The Topless Outlaws Dirt Late Model Series and Steel Block Bandits will once again be visiting Bulls Gap, USA in 2023. … There will also be special events for Red Clay Series 602 Late Models and the GM Performance 602 Late Models ($1,500-to-win) scheduled April 29. Red Clay Series 602 Late Models ($2,000-to-win) on June 10. … Sept. 23 will see both the Red Clay Series 602 Late Models and GM Performance 602 Late Models battling for $5,000-to-win.

The Tennessee Mini Late Models are set for three races: May 20, July 22 and Sept. 23.

Fans along with drivers/race teams over the past several years have longed for the return of a full schedule at Volunteer Speedway. Weekly racing in 2023 will feature: Super Late Model, 604 & Sportsman Late Model, Open Wheel Modified, Street Stock, Classic, and Front Wheel Drive.
