Excessive Rainfall Forces Cancellation of May 30 Event

By Volunteer Speedway | 26 May 2026 | Featured News | |

After careful consideration, Volunteer Speedway will NOT run this Saturday night’s (May 30) scheduled weekly racing program due to excessive rainfall over the past several days.

At times, the rainfall has been torrential and has caused significant damage to the racing surface. While rainouts are never an easy decision, this situation goes beyond simply whether it rains on race day itself.

The grounds remain heavily saturated, preventing heavy equipment from safely getting onto the track to begin the extensive prep work needed to restore the surface to the standard that Vic Hill expects for competitors and fans alike.

With additional rain still in the forecast through the remainder of the week, including possible showers on Saturday, officials have made the decision early in the week to avoid rushing or compromising the track preparation process. Vic Hill and the Volunteer Speedway crew have worked tirelessly to improve the racing surface, and the goal remains to provide racers with a safe, smooth, and professionally prepared track every single event night.

We know this is disappointing news for our fans, teams, and staff, but we appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience as we work through an unusually wet stretch of weather.

The Gap will roar back to life on Saturday, June 6th when the Best Plumber 604 Series visits Volunteer Speedway. Additional classes in action that night will be announced soon.

Thank you for your continued support of Volunteer Speedway.
