Mitch McCarter’s Korner

February 20, 2017 — My family (wife Tanya, sons Pierce and Mack) and I are very excited about taking over operations of Volunteer Speedway for the 2017 racing season. This is one of the top short-tracks in the entire United States. There’s just a lot of history established here at “The Gap” since the facility was built back in the mid-1970s, and this will be the 44th season of racing on the high banks. … There’s an old saying that you’ve got to crawl before you walk, and walk before you run – and I ask fans, drivers and race teams to have patience with us as we get cranked up for what I promise you will be an exciting season of racing.

Our tentative 2017 race schedule has 19 events, and possibly additional dates could be added. For our weekly shows, we’ll run Steel Head Late Model, Crate Late Model, Sportsman Late Model, Modified Street and Classic, with possibly a few races for Open Wheel Modified.
