Volunteer Speedway releases 2014 tentative race schedule

BULLS GAP, Tenn. (Jan. 16) — Volunteer Speedway is gearing up for the start of the 2014 racing season, which will be the 41st year of racing at ”The Gap!”

With NASCAR visiting East Tennessee and Bristol Motor Speedway twice a year for racing at the “World’s Fastest Half-Mile,” Volunteer Speedway hosts special event Super Late Model shows on both occasions with racing at nearby BMS. Kicking off the season at Volunteer Speedway on Friday and Saturday, March 14-15, will be the 13th annual Spring Thaw under sanctioning from Ray Cook’s Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series presented by Schaefer Oil, paying $4,000-to-win on Friday and $10,000-to-win on Saturday.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series $10,000-to-win 11th annual Scorcher will be held on Thursday, Aug. 21 during summer Bristol Motor Speedway NASCAR race-week.

The Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series will be featured in two $4,000-to-win events, on Saturday, May 18 and Saturday, July 12.

The Southern All-Star Dirt Racing Series returns to action on the high-banks for the $5,200-to-win, second annual Scott Sexton Memorial 52 on Saturday, June 14.

The Ray Cook-promoted Schaefer Oil Southern Nationals Series will be in action on Tuesday, July 22 for a $3,500-to-win Super Late Model special, along with Crate Late Models and a Demolition Derby.

A $4,000-to-win Steel Head (Limited) Late Model event is scheduled on Friday, Aug. 8.

Super Late Model, Steel Head Late Model, Crate Late Model and Hobby racing events are also scheduled throughout the season. Also, the fourth annual Hobby Havoc will be held.

Directions to Volunteer Speedway: South on Interstate 81 from Tennessee/Virginia state lines, take Exit 23 (Bulls Gap/Greeneville), then turn right onto Hwy. 11-E at bottom of the exit ramp. Look for track entrance approximately 200 yards on left.

North on Interstate 81 from I-81/I-40 split (East of Knoxville, TN), take Exit 23, then turn left onto Hwy. 11-E at bottom of the exit ramp. Continue underneath the interstate over-pass and track entrance approximately 300 yards ahead on left.
